Shoes Day Tuesday: Rain Boots

[Two notes to our readers: 1) check our our new Instagram at notafashunblogger. We will post some outfits of the day for ourselves, and some people around our office we are particularly vibing on. You may also find some fashion don'ts that we see on the street from time to time. 2) This is the start of a new blog post series (what?! We told you we like a series!), but don't expect it every week. We just aren't that on top of things.] 2017 has been all over the place when it comes to weather. We've had polar vortex-level cold, so-hot-your-eyeballs-sweat days this summer, and every temperature in between. Here in Chicago, we have also seen an unusual amount of rain throughout the spring and summer months. This led us to an idea for our first Shoes Day Tuesday series: rain boots. Every fashion blogger and basic bitch out there will tell you that you need a pair of tall Hunter boots. They are super cute and super fashionable. You can even get fleece liners and we...

Full Disclosure

In this post  we showed you some pieces that the Katies were looking to snag at super low prices. We wanted to follow up and let you know what worked and what didn't: Katie 1: The nude sandals: Total score at this point. Super cute and comfortable (so far). I will report back once I've worn them for a longer period of time. Monkey dress: Miss. Was way too long for me. Decided against buying it once I saw it in store. Katie 2 tried it on in store as well. Ditto on the length. If you're under 5'8", skip it. Katie 2: The jacket: total miss. It was a complete and utter disaster. The neckline is really high up, to where I felt like a nun. All the buttons made me feel like Steve Harvey, and the peplum Was. Not. Cute. Not even a little bit. Disappointed, but this sucker is going back. Black wrap dress : TOTAL SCORE! I'm wearing it today, and have gotten plenty of compliments already (it's only 10:00!!) A basic, short sleeve wrap dress in bla...

Theory Suiting Isn't the Holy Grail and Other Suiting Myths

It's that time of year where summer is starting to wind down, internships and summer associate gigs are ending and interview season is about to be in full swing (at least for law students). It makes this a good time to discuss suits, particularly interview suits. It's worth noting that we recognize that the world of suiting is very large and there are a lot of myths out there about suiting. We can't discuss each and every myth in this post (if we tried it would just turn into a 25 year old hipster's memoir which isn't what we're going for here), so we're going to start a monthly series where we set the record straight about suiting. (Katie 2 wants a full disclosure that in actuality, promising a monthly series is quite lofty, given our propensity for not getting posts done.) In our experience, corporate fashion blogs run the gamut with respect to suiting. While we've found some helpful posts over the years (we do give credit where credit is due), we...

Honesty is the Best Policy: How Much We Really Spend on Stuff- Skincare Edition

[Note: Katie 2 is having major technology issues, which are very likely her fault and have nothing to do with Blogspot. That being said, it doesn't look as though all of the links are showing up, but they are there!! Hover the name of any product and there is a link directly to it.] Our recent post on cheap thrills made it clear that the three of us are at three different levels when it comes to our spending on make-up and skincare. Which got us thinking (always dangerous) – how much do real working girls actually spend on make-up and skincare? Given the number of products in our bathroom, we’re going to break this up into a series of posts. First off is skincare. Next up will be make-up followed by hair care. If you can’t tell – readers we want your input on this one. Why? Well first of all, it’s interesting. Secondly, we will attempt to use this data to really cater to the actual budgets of real working girls. That being said, here’s what we spend on skincare (and a...

CHEAP CHEAP!

It's the time of year when everyone has a sale. In an effort not to bombard you with them all, we will only let you know about the really good ones. Today: 60% all sale styles at Ann Taylor . Check it out and stock up! In an effort to provide actual content in our posts (unlike some of those other fashion bloggers out there), here are a few things we're looking at. Katie 1  has a wedding and is looking at picking up these: Katie 2  is looking at these, because she loves a good blazer and you can never have too may black knit dresses ...

Jumping on the Band Wagon: The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

Previously, we talked to you about the virtues of Nordstrom   One of the things we mentioned was the Anniversary Sale. Well, tis the season to write the same post that every other blogger is writing about… or is it??? (It’s not.) What we want to talk to you about today is how to navigate it- REALLY navigate. Not the “here’s the list of things you should buy” navigation, but how to learn something you can use year after year, at any sale, regardless of whether your tastes or styles change or whether a blogger is telling you what to buy. All sales have one thing in common: lower prices. Duh, right? But with the lower prices comes swarms of people. Add in limited quantities and you have mess and frustration for the Real Working Girl, most of whom don’t really have the patience to dig through racks and boxes to find that one great deal on the most fabulous of things. (Remember the Victoria’s Secret semi-annual sale in high school? Katie 2 still gets hives thinking about ...

Blogger beauty posts are overwhelming. Let's change that. Here's a list of our favorite drugstore products.

Are we (well, the Katies) the only ones who read fashion blogger beauty posts and break out into hives because the amount of products they use is simply overwhelming (although they insist that their entire beauty regimen only takes 10 minutes which we all know is total bullshit). Since we're sure (hoping) that we're not alone, we thought it would be fun (read: helpful) to introduce you to some of our favorite drugstore beauty products. These aren't the products that we use because they're cheap and we don't feel like going to Sephora and crushing our wine budget. These are the products that we return to time-and-time again because they are genuinely better than any other product we've tried- both drugstore and designer. So without further ado... let's get to the list (which includes pictures of the actual products in our actual bathrooms, so please excuse the messes): Katie 1: This post was probably the hardest for me to write because approximately 80% of...
