Katie 1 is a holiday junkie so naturally,
she gets super into Halloween and is usually the only person in her office who
dresses up. Katie 2 and Elizabeth are boring and thus are not fans of dressing up for Halloween at work. They are wrong- this is an awesome post that is super helpful to all 3 of our readers!
So… in an office where no one is fun when it comes to
Halloween, how does Katie 1 dress up and still fall within the office dress
code? Easy. She picks a costume that can
easily be put together using her existing work wardrobe. For example, last year she put a white button
up on under the Old Navy t shirt dress that we all love (and is still available),
added some tights and black flats, parted her hair down the middle and wore it
in braided pigtails and BOOM! Wednesday Addams costume accomplished. The year before, she wore a red wrap dress
and devil horns. Sure, these aren’t very
imaginative costumes, but they are work appropriate and you're not going to look like a crazy person in meetings.
Besides the two costume ideas listed above, here are a few other options for work appropriate costumes:
- Black dress + subtle leopard print tights + cat ears = Cat (wear tall boots to downplay the tights if your office is particularly conservative)
- Black dress + tights + red pumps + witches hat = Wicked Witch of the West (green make-up optional)
- Boucle skirt + boucle jacket + tights + pearls + ballet flats = Coco Chanel
- Black sheath dress + pearls + long gloves + long cigarette holder = Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s
- Blue wrap dress + perfect bouncy blowout + gigantic (faux) sapphire ring + tiara = Duchess of Cambridge
- Blazer + striped shirt + jeans + glasses + annoyed expression = Liz Lemon
- Flawless all white separates + wine glass = Olivia Pope
You get the idea. Want more inspiration? Pop Sugar has a great photo gallery of work appropriate costumes, as does Bustle. Warning about the Bustle article - the content is good, not all pictures are still available. Also, the costumes are little more costume-y, so know your office before attempting. For 2017, the best inspiration I've found is from Marie Claire.
Happy (early) Halloween! After impressing your colleagues with your awesome and appropriate costume and binge on boatloads of candy, be sure to check our Instagram tomorrow for a look at Katie 1’s
costume!
