Shoes Day Tuesday: Espadrilles

We are longingly remembering the days when February meant spring break. When the monotony of every day life was interrupted by trips to far off places full of sunshine and tequila shots. Even if you didn't ever go anywhere spring breaky, that week off during the dreary days was a welcome distraction from the dull, grey every day.

Last year at this time, Katie 2 was doing some last minute shopping for a trip to Hawaii. She pulled Katie 1 along and the two of them passed the time looking for the perfect nude wedges/sundresses/sun hats. This year, there is no trip to warmer climates on the horizon for any of us (Katie 1 is taking a ski vacation), but we still like to break the monotony of winter blues by shopping for the must-have shoe for tropical vacations, the espadrille. We also think this post is a great Shoes Day Tuesday/Travel Tuesday crossover. Win win!

Frugal (Under $100)
  1. There are a ton of cute options in the frugal price point. For starters, these come in a few different colors and they're only $15 folks!!!
  2. These from one of our favorite stores (Lands' End!) come in 6 colors. Go with the neutral Silver Beech for versatility.
  3. You can count this recommendation as a ten-for-one: We've never heard of the brand Soludods, but we came across this pair at Nordstrom and we think they're adorable. We kept looking and found flamingos, and elephants, and lemons too! All four pair have a 4+ star rating. If you try them, let us know what you think. (We found this margarita pair while looking for other recommendations!!! And avocados, and sushi, and a Negroni shaker, and peacocks!!! FRENCH BULLDOG, PEOPLE!!)
  4. I'm not sure any of us have actually tried Toms, but they are super  popular. These are lace and not at all offensive.
  5. Kelly & Katie is a pretty standard brand available at your local DSW. These offer a slight lift in multiple patterns and colors (the green leafy pair looks a bit Lilly Pulitzer to us).
Mid-Line ($100-$200)
  1. The Max Espadrille from Tory Burch is in line with the mule trend right now. Honest moment: Katie 1 and Katie 2 are not huge fans of Tory Burch shoes. We decided to include them anyway for two reasons 1) the Katies realize they are in the minority when it comes to Tory Burch and 2) these are pretty cute. We also want to highlight these, even though they aren't at all what we were thinking about when we were say "espadrilles". But we saw them and are pretty much obsessed. We also recognize that they are not part of the "mid-line" category, but we didn't want to waste a spot in the "What Katie 1 Spends" for a brand we've already talked about/shoes that don't really fit into the category of this post.
  2. As southern girls, the Katies love Jack Rogers. What else is there to say?
  3. Another brand we aren't familiar with is Pelle Moda. We did some investigating and it seems fairly well liked, so we want to recommend these cute espadrille wedges. They come in a variety of colors!
  4. The Marc Jacobs Sienna Flat Espadrille looks like a fuckin' party!
  5. We love a good metallic. But these Eric Micahel espadrille wedges come in 5 colors. The cutouts look great, just to careful- they probably leave quite the tan line!
What Katie 1 Spends (Over $200)
  1. So we spotted these and think they are beautiful. Katie 1 would like us to highlight the similar option because she really likes the bees.
  2. These espadrilles from Burberry are classic, and beautiful, and Katie 1 can vouch for them.

Workout Wednesday: Let's Discuss that NYT Article

By know we've all read (or read about) that New York Times  opinion piece shaming women for wearing anything other than sweatpants to the gym. We're not going to link to it here because we don't want to send additional traffic to the website; however, THIS article from Jezebel  sums the article up quite nicely (make sure to check out the comments, they're gold). In short, the author of the opinion piece wears sweatpants to the gym, doesn't see anyone else wearing them and then proceeds to shame women for (1) wanting to look nice in their workout clothing; and (2) wearing anything other than baggy sweats to the gym. The article also cultivates the very thing that the author claims the proliferation of the yoga pants culture seems to cultivate: it shames women for dressing how they want, when they want.  The overarching theme of women shaming aside (because we don't have the time to go into that), most of the points that the author makes in the article are jus...

Mad for Plaid: An entire post dedicated to Black Watch Tartan

Confession: Katie 1 has a slight obsession w/ Black Watch Tartan. Why? First, because it’s a combination of her favorite colors.  Second, the Duchess of Cambridge.  Third, it has a pretty cool history which makes it even more fun to wear.  It’s fairly common knowledge that Black Watch tartan is named for the 43rd Royal Regiment, commonly known as the Black Watch.  Did you know that Black Watch tartan actually pre-dates the formation of the 43rd Royal Regiment?  In fact, one of the theories behind why the 43rd is called the Black Watch is because of the very dark appearance of their uniform tartan (which we now know as Black Watch tartan).  So how deep does Katie 1’s obsession go?  She could wear a different item of Black Watch tartan every day for more than a week obsessed.  Want proof? Here’s a list of all of the Black Watch items in her wardrobe. Blazer Work Dress Casual Dress Side Zip Ankle Pants Front Zip Ankle Pants Trousers Ski...

Back to Basics: The Sheath Dress

We're back with the second post in our series of basic pieces that working women should have in their wardrobes. If you missed our first, go back and check it out . The goal is to show you those items we come back to time and time again and show you a few ways to wear them so you 1) get some mileage out of the pieces and 2) you don't look (or feel) as though you're wearing the same thing every day. The capsule wardrobe. Be honest- how many times have you pinned it? (Katie 1 would like you to know she's has NEVER pinned it. She has no desire whatsoever to create a capsule wardrobe thankyouverymuch.) Whether it's for vacation or every day, we search for those elusive few pieces that we can mix-and-match in a million different ways to create an entire month's worth of outfits with just seven pieces! We here at Not a Corporate Fashun Blog have no mastered the capsule wardrobe. We, just like you, wake up in the morning with a closet packed full of stuff and ...
