As our recent posts have been indicating, spring is in the
air. We are all adjusting to the time
change (daylight savings is a bitch) and the official start of spring is a week
away so the thought of any vestiges of winter are currently abhorrent to me (Elizabeth) even if the weather is still in the 30s most of the time. One way to telegraph “spring” even when you
can’t choose a flowy dress and bare legs (because you would freeze to death), is
to change up the colors you are wearing and your makeup.
OK, so spring makeup trends. I have been told it is not good enough to suggest lighter brighter
colors, even though that really is the simple truth. ("Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking.") I assume that also means I can’t just tell
you that the Pantone color of the year is Ultra-Violet and send you out to buy
purple everything. So this weekend I attended one of my favorite Nordstrom
events (which we have discussed before): the Beauty Trend Show. Here are the trends as they see it:
First, they are calling for earth tones. One way to follow this trend would be with a
matte eye using these neutral hues to create a soft look that won’t compete
with the rest of your look. A super easy
way to accomplish this is with Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Cream Shadow Sticks. They have several beautiful mattes shades to
choose from (I like Taupe or Sand Dune). Scribble them on, blend them out, and they will set for a stay-all-day
look.
Then you can follow that up with the next trend: the “Hi-Def Lip”. Change up the winter bold lip to a Spring
appropriate statement lip by going with bright reds or saturated pinks to add a
punch to your look. If you are looking
for suggestions to rock this look, try Charlotte Tilbury’s cerise lip color
“The Queen” or "Raspberry Pink" from Bobbi Brown. If you are afraid of a bold lip but want to try
a hint of color, try the Lancome Juicy Shakers. They are a lip oil that gives you a non-sticky
shine and a sheer tint of color to your lips.
The last trend is luminous, glowy skin. But when does anyone not want that? At any rate, many companies are claiming to
have come up with a weightless full cover foundation, Nars and Dior to name a few. The terms “weightless”
and “full coverage” together often feel like an oxymoron (like President Trump) but if one of these formulas has cracked it, then there is hope yet. I have some samples to try. Fingers
crossed.
There you have it.
What changes are you making to your beauty routine? Will you be trying any of the above out? We would love to know.
