Shoes Day Tuesday: Nude Pumps

Without a doubt, our most highly viewed post is The Shoes Every Woman Needs, where we outline the shoes that... every woman needs. We here at Not a Corporate Fashun Blog voted that every working girl needs: 1) black pumps; 2) nude pumps; 3) fun shoes; 4) black flats; and 5) other casual shoes.

So now, we bring you a series within a series, a Shoe Inception if you will, in which we walk (see what we did there?) through each of those five categories and show you shoes we love at varying price points. Up first: the nude pump. Why? Because even though they aren't the first shoe we discussed in our initial post, Katie 1 and Elizabeth believe that the nude shoe season is coming to a close and we want to make sure we give you our recommendations. Katie 2 is more than a little OCD and doesn't like that we aren't going through the shoes in the order we initially discussed them, but she's trying to be flexible. k

We would also like to take this moment to give a special thank you to  Afiya for giving us some great recommendations for nude-to-you shoes for WOC (and also a thanks to her for teaching us the acronym).

[Note: In our big "Shoes Every Woman Needs" post, we made some recommendation in each category. Check back to that post for our absolute favorites. This post is to show you options other than our initial choices.]

Now, here are our recommendations at three different price points:

Frugal (Less than $100)
  1. Naturalizer offers nudes for all shades, and they are practical. Try the Natalie.
  2. J. Renee Maressa Pearlized Patent Metal Embossed Heel Pumps are a favorite of Fi's because they "pick up my golden undertones and go with absolutely everything." She may have purchased a pair for herself when researching recommendations for this post.
  3. Alex Marie Taliena Leather Cross Strap Pumps "come in a darker tone for my dark chocolate girls. (The color has an unfortunate name)."
  4. A safe bet for budget shoppers is the Bandolino Priscilla
  5. The Calvin Klein Gayle pumps come in a bunch of different colors, all which appear to be under $100. There are several options that could be nude-to-you.
Mid-Line ($100-$200)
  1. These Matisse from Walking Cradles in Bronze Dahlia are metallic, plus chunky heels are in. (For a more expensive version of the same shoe, look at the Zala Pump from Marc Fisher which is available in nude colors for just about everyone).
  2. The Sam Edelman Hazel Pointy Toe Pump comes in three shades of nude, one of which is patent leather.
  3. From Rockport, the Total Motion Luxe Valerie Pump is available in bronze or taupe.
  4. If you're not completely steady in heels, go for a low wedge like this Corso Como Nelly Pointy Toe Wedge Pump
  5. These Sam Edelman Nixons are more than just basic nudes. The cutouts make them just a little sexier while still being totally appropriate for the office.
  6. These SJP by Sarah Jessica Parker Rampling 70s are beautiful in nude, but is it wrong we want them in black and white, too??
What Katie 1 Spends ($200 and Up)
  1. Gianvito Rossi's Gianvito Suede Pumps, because if it's good enough for the Duchess of Cambridge, it's good enough for us! (Limited sizes available.)
  2. Jimmy Choo makes the ever classic Romy Patent Pointed-Toe 85mm Pump that's worth at least a look.
  3. A pricer SJP by Sarah Jessica Parker option is the Fawn 100mm. The color seems super light, so it may only count as a nude shoe for someone like Katie 2 or Elizabeth.
  4. Stuart Weitzman seems to have really hit it out of the park when it comes to nude pumps. We recommended SW to you in our Shoes Ever Woman Needs post and we we don't like repeats because we want to provide a variety of brands and stores for you to shop at. But we wouldn't be doing our duty to you as fashun advisers if we didn't let you know about the NearlyNude Ankle Strap Sandal (available in a variety of colors and another recommendation that has been worn by HRH), the 2.75 inch patent leather Tessa, the 3 inch round toe Moody, or the 3.5 inch soft pointed toe Power pump.
Think we're missing an important perspective? Let us know! We're happy to have special contributors so we can be sure to give our readers relevant information!

Workout Wednesday: Let's Discuss that NYT Article

By know we've all read (or read about) that New York Times  opinion piece shaming women for wearing anything other than sweatpants to the gym. We're not going to link to it here because we don't want to send additional traffic to the website; however, THIS article from Jezebel  sums the article up quite nicely (make sure to check out the comments, they're gold). In short, the author of the opinion piece wears sweatpants to the gym, doesn't see anyone else wearing them and then proceeds to shame women for (1) wanting to look nice in their workout clothing; and (2) wearing anything other than baggy sweats to the gym. The article also cultivates the very thing that the author claims the proliferation of the yoga pants culture seems to cultivate: it shames women for dressing how they want, when they want.  The overarching theme of women shaming aside (because we don't have the time to go into that), most of the points that the author makes in the article are jus...

Mad for Plaid: An entire post dedicated to Black Watch Tartan

Confession: Katie 1 has a slight obsession w/ Black Watch Tartan. Why? First, because it’s a combination of her favorite colors.  Second, the Duchess of Cambridge.  Third, it has a pretty cool history which makes it even more fun to wear.  It’s fairly common knowledge that Black Watch tartan is named for the 43rd Royal Regiment, commonly known as the Black Watch.  Did you know that Black Watch tartan actually pre-dates the formation of the 43rd Royal Regiment?  In fact, one of the theories behind why the 43rd is called the Black Watch is because of the very dark appearance of their uniform tartan (which we now know as Black Watch tartan).  So how deep does Katie 1’s obsession go?  She could wear a different item of Black Watch tartan every day for more than a week obsessed.  Want proof? Here’s a list of all of the Black Watch items in her wardrobe. Blazer Work Dress Casual Dress Side Zip Ankle Pants Front Zip Ankle Pants Trousers Ski...

Back to Basics: The Sheath Dress

We're back with the second post in our series of basic pieces that working women should have in their wardrobes. If you missed our first, go back and check it out . The goal is to show you those items we come back to time and time again and show you a few ways to wear them so you 1) get some mileage out of the pieces and 2) you don't look (or feel) as though you're wearing the same thing every day. The capsule wardrobe. Be honest- how many times have you pinned it? (Katie 1 would like you to know she's has NEVER pinned it. She has no desire whatsoever to create a capsule wardrobe thankyouverymuch.) Whether it's for vacation or every day, we search for those elusive few pieces that we can mix-and-match in a million different ways to create an entire month's worth of outfits with just seven pieces! We here at Not a Corporate Fashun Blog have no mastered the capsule wardrobe. We, just like you, wake up in the morning with a closet packed full of stuff and ...
