The Year in Review

Merry Christmas to all you fine folks!

If you're reading this on Christmas Day, it's either because your family sucks and you are avoiding spending any time with them or because you are so completely into our blog that you couldn't stand not knowing what great advice or recommendations we have for you.

Fear not! We have recommendations, but of a different sort.

We wanted to take this opportunity to thank you loyal readers and even you not so loyal ones. We also want to thank those of you who have randomly stumbled across our humble little blog and kept reading up until this point. (The blog is humble. We are not.)

As a thank you, we want to give you the best we have to offer (at least in our opinions). And the best we have to offer is a list of our favorite posts from this past year, whether because . There are some posts we have really enjoyed researching, writing, or reading back. Take this opportunity to take a walk down memory lane as we share the best of the best of 2017. (We promise- there will be all new content coming later this week!)

  1. Working Out While Traveling: With only 12 views, I don't feel like this post got enough love. I absolutely loved writing this post and was so happy to share what I've learned over the years with all of you. Writing it not only allowed me to relive some of my favorite travel memories but it also encouraged me to try a running tour during my last trip to New York.  If you're fairly new to the blog, I encourage you to give this post some more love!
  2. Evening Shoes: I had so much fun writing this post! Maybe I'm just a sucker for bling and fancy parties but I enjoyed every minute of getting lost in the sparkly, frilly splendor that makes shoe shopping this time of year so much fun. I also ended up finding the perfect pair of tartan pumps on sale so there's that too.
  3. Favorite Drug Store Finds: While I may spend way too much on clothing and shoes, I'm notoriously cheap when it comes to skincare and makeup. Thus, this post was right up my alley.  I was able to learn about some new products and share some of my tried and true favorites. What's not to love about that?

  1. How to Wear Black and White (and not look like a waiter): This post is special to me for a very important reason. For years, I have avoided wearing black and white precisely because I didn't want to look like I did during the my of waiting tables in undergrad. When I came up with the idea for the post, I started to think about all the times I had seen women pulling it off. I paid attention to women I work with and women on the street. I actually learned something in the process. I also loved looking for recommendations. I haven't worn black and white since writing that post, but when I do, I will feel much more confident about it.
  2. Shoes Day Tuesday: Multiples: I loved this post because I think it is some of the most practical advice we can offer. We can talk until we're blue in the face about things we love, but the best way to show you is to put our money where our mouths are. I loved looking online at all the places that sell the amazing Licorice pump, and my wallet was a bit lighter after finding some adorable colors and patterns that I knew would fit like a dream.
  3. Introducing: MM. LaFleur: I heard about MMLF months prior to working on this post, and I needed an excuse to try it out. I loved trying out a new brand and paying attention to all the details so I could be thorough and explain why I feel the way I do. As a bonus, by trying it out I (and by extension the other ladies here) was invited to the special event at the Langham to try out even more pieces from the brand! I ended up finding a brand I will absolutely shop again.
  4. ***Keep an eye out! My other favorite post is coming at the end of this week!!

  1. The Old Navy T-Shirt Dress: Why? Because it's the first one. And because I really do love that dress and its versatility.
  2. Ask the Expert: I like talking about make-up (as I'm sure you've guessed by now). And I liked finding out more about micellar water for the good of the blog- and you.
  3. My least favorite? Any of the "What We Really Spend" posts, because STOP JUDGING ME!!! (I won't link to them because I really don't want you to go back and read any of them.)

Workout Wednesday: Let's Discuss that NYT Article

By know we've all read (or read about) that New York Times  opinion piece shaming women for wearing anything other than sweatpants to the gym. We're not going to link to it here because we don't want to send additional traffic to the website; however, THIS article from Jezebel  sums the article up quite nicely (make sure to check out the comments, they're gold). In short, the author of the opinion piece wears sweatpants to the gym, doesn't see anyone else wearing them and then proceeds to shame women for (1) wanting to look nice in their workout clothing; and (2) wearing anything other than baggy sweats to the gym. The article also cultivates the very thing that the author claims the proliferation of the yoga pants culture seems to cultivate: it shames women for dressing how they want, when they want.  The overarching theme of women shaming aside (because we don't have the time to go into that), most of the points that the author makes in the article are jus...

Mad for Plaid: An entire post dedicated to Black Watch Tartan

Confession: Katie 1 has a slight obsession w/ Black Watch Tartan. Why? First, because it’s a combination of her favorite colors.  Second, the Duchess of Cambridge.  Third, it has a pretty cool history which makes it even more fun to wear.  It’s fairly common knowledge that Black Watch tartan is named for the 43rd Royal Regiment, commonly known as the Black Watch.  Did you know that Black Watch tartan actually pre-dates the formation of the 43rd Royal Regiment?  In fact, one of the theories behind why the 43rd is called the Black Watch is because of the very dark appearance of their uniform tartan (which we now know as Black Watch tartan).  So how deep does Katie 1’s obsession go?  She could wear a different item of Black Watch tartan every day for more than a week obsessed.  Want proof? Here’s a list of all of the Black Watch items in her wardrobe. Blazer Work Dress Casual Dress Side Zip Ankle Pants Front Zip Ankle Pants Trousers Ski...

Back to Basics: The Sheath Dress

We're back with the second post in our series of basic pieces that working women should have in their wardrobes. If you missed our first, go back and check it out . The goal is to show you those items we come back to time and time again and show you a few ways to wear them so you 1) get some mileage out of the pieces and 2) you don't look (or feel) as though you're wearing the same thing every day. The capsule wardrobe. Be honest- how many times have you pinned it? (Katie 1 would like you to know she's has NEVER pinned it. She has no desire whatsoever to create a capsule wardrobe thankyouverymuch.) Whether it's for vacation or every day, we search for those elusive few pieces that we can mix-and-match in a million different ways to create an entire month's worth of outfits with just seven pieces! We here at Not a Corporate Fashun Blog have no mastered the capsule wardrobe. We, just like you, wake up in the morning with a closet packed full of stuff and ...
